We are looking for a Behavior Intervention Specialist Level II to join our team. The Behavior Intervention Specialist Level II is responsible for developing, implementing, and revising Behavioral Support Plans or Services that include restrictive and/or intrusive interventions under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or licensed psychologist (Consulting Clinician).  

The schedule for this vacancy is Monday - Friday day shift. The pay range for this position is $25.75/hr to $27.55/hr, dependent on experience and education.  As a full time employee, you will accrue paid time off starting day one. Qualified candidate should have the following education and experience:

    • Must have a bachelor’s degree in a human services field; and have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system as of, and continuously since, December 31, 2012; and either:
      • is actively working toward a master’s degree in an applied area of psychology, social work, or special education; or
      • completes at least one graduate-level course in an applied health service area of applied psychology, social work, or special education each year; OR
    • The party must have a BCBA or an LBA; OR
    • Have either:
      • a master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical intervention, or a related human services field; or
      • a New York State license in mental health counseling; and
    • Have or obtain OPWDD-approved specialized training or experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and revises Behavioral Support Plans/ Services appropriate to individuals’ needs with Consulting Psychologist.
  • Obtains Human Rights Committee approval for Behavior Support Plans that include the use of restrictive interventions, limit an individual’s rights, or include the use of medication to modify or control challenging behavior.
  • Provides initial and on-going training, support, and debriefing with staff in the implementation of Behavior Support Plans/ Services for individuals on their caseload.
  • Assist program areas or residences in times of behavioral crisis which may include working non-traditional hours.
  • Completes an Adaptive Behavior Assessment annually, triennially, or as required for each individual on their caseload in accordance with the current assessment tool being utilized by the Psychology Department.
  • Participates in direct service aspects of each individual’s program (ADL’s, feeding, transporting, recreation activities) as needed to develop relationships and observe behavioral needs.
  • Conducts individual and/or group debriefing sessions, under the supervision/ direction of the Consulting Psychologist, for individuals on their caseload as referred by the Treatment Team and other duties as assigned.
